Entertainment, everywhere.

Nine Entertainment Company launched 9Now in early 2016 with the objective of allowing all Australians to access on-demand and live content free from any device.

Background – a shifting media landscape

The strong growth of online streaming presented an opportunity and challenge for traditional broadcasters to capture new audiences and compete with newer entrants. Research included reviewing other streaming brands in terms of their approach and user experience.

Sketching the experience

Our team began developing the 9Now product using quick sketches to create rudimentary user journeys that allowed us to target potential issues and identify ideal paths.

Moving to wireframes

Moving to low fidelity wireframes enabled accurately scaled designs to be tested in devices. These prototypes further refined the product concept and exposed any remaining short comings in user journeys.

Production and asset preparation

Working closely with native application developers, we created detailed specifications documents to ensure the final product aligned as closely as possible with the approved designs.

Release and continual improvement

Following the release of the 9Now native and web applications, our team worked on integrating both user feedback and areas that could be improved which surfaced as a result of extensive user tracking. New features including Chromecast support were also added in the months following the launch.
